Breastfeeding Info

These are a few of my favorite resources. I hope you find them helpful!

Websites About Breastfeeding:
  • KellyMom.com - KellyMom is my go-to resource for just about any breastfeeding question.  Other than being comprehensive, what I really like about this site is that everything includes links to references including studies and medical articles.
  • BFAR.org - BFAR stands for Breast Feeding After Reduction, and this site is a great resource for women who have had breast reductions and want to breastfeed.  Yes!  It's possible!  In addition to BFAR moms, any mom with low supply or other breast surgeries could benefit from information on this site.
  • LowMilkSupply.org - Information for moms who aren't making enough milk to meet the needs of their baby's needs.  This is the sister site to BFAR.org.
  • breastfeedinginc.ca (Dr. Newman) -Breastfeeding Inc. is the website for Dr. Jack Newman, who is a breastfeeding resource extraordinaire!  There is a ton of information on his site, but if you have a really complicated or strange question you can actually send an email to him to get a response.  In a couple of instances this has really saved my tushie!
  • infantrisk.com (Dr. Hale) - Infant Risk, from Texas Tech, is the website for Dr. Hale and provides vast amounts of research regarding medications and breastfeeding.  This reliable resource is used by medical professionals all over the world.

Books About Breastfeeding:
  • Making More Milk - The Breastfeeding Mother's Guide to Making More Milk is an invaluable resource for moms who have low supply.  The book covers everything from identifying the cause to increasing supply.  Definitely try out the tea recipe!
  • Defining Your Own Success -Defining Your Own Success: Breast Feeding After Breast Reduction Surgery really isn't just for BFAR moms!  This book is focused on BFAR moms but is really a guide to helping a mother with low supply learn how to make the most of her own particular physical abilities while also learning to love herself and enjoy the breastfeeding bond created between ANY mother and baby, even if there's not a drop of momma's milk to be had!  If you struggle with supplementing on an emotional level, this is the book for you.
  • Medications and Mother's Milk - By Dr. Hale, this book has a ton of information about the safety of medications while breastfeeding.
